Contact Lenses

People choose to wear contact lenses for many reasons. Aesthetics and cosmetics are often motivating factors for people who would like to avoid wearing glasses or would like to change the appearance of their eyes. Other people wear contacts for functional or optical reasons. When compared with spectacles, contact lenses typically provide better peripheral vision, and do not collect moisture such as rain, snow, condensation, or sweat.

This makes them ideal for sports and other outdoor activities. Contact lens wearers can also wear sunglasses, goggles, or other eyewear of their choice without having to fit them with prescription lenses or worry about compatibility with glasses.

Before you can get a pair of contact lenses, you’ll need to have your eyes examined and fitted by an optometrist and get your prescription. Normally, fittings for contact lenses will take longer than the standard eye exam. If you are looking to get fitted for contacts, let our optometrist know up front that you are interested in getting contacts.

When you first begin with your eye exam, your optometrist will first examine the health of your eyes. Your eye doctor will also want to know why you want contacts, if you have any known problems with your eyes, and what you hope to get from your visit. Overall, your contact fitting and exam will be based on the information that you have provided.

Understand your types of contact lenses

Contact lenses that correct nearsightedness (myopia) and farsightedness (hyperopia).

Toric contact lenses correct for astigmatism issues that arise from a different curvature of the cornea or lens in your eye (referred to as regular astigmatism, corneal astigmatism or lenticular astigmatism).

Different eye conditions require specific contact lenses. Dry eyes, giant papillary conjunctivitis (GPC), Presbyopia, Karatoconus, corrective eye surgery, are some of the reasons for custom contact lenses.
